Into the fray
Mar. 4th, 2025 06:33 pmWell, it's my 9823094th attempt at journaling. I used to love journaling and then I am not sure what happened. I lost time. I always feel like I am out of time. At some point, I really will be. That was morbid.
Really sometimes I just need to stream my consciousness out of my body and mind, and sometimes I don't always have the best audiences for that. So, I will use DW hopefully as that audience against it's will. "Feel free to scroll" the motto of our modern day internet.
Today was tariff day here in Canada. Yay. I remember the day after Trump was re-elected, how all shocked we were that the American people can choose that guy a second time around, and a guy at work said something that has really stuck with me. He grew up in Venezuela and knew about far worse governmental officials. He said that the Americans voted for what they deserved.
Yes, that includes the people who Didn't Vote and now claim he's Not Their President. Not voting is the same as casting your ballot for the victor IMHO.
So they voted for what they deserved. Mass lay offs, threats to health care, protectionist policies which may bite them in the ass in the long term, and now of course - escalating tariffs.
Shortly after Trudeau announced our own retaliation, Trump posted about his retaliation to our retaliation.
This world is ridiculous. Will we just tax the shit out of each other into oblivion? Is that what the Americans deserve? Is that what the rest of the world deserves?
Unfortunately or not, we are in a global economy. What one country does can reverberate around the world - whether it's a power player or not. So while the American may deserve a racist misogynistic blow-hard who doesn't understand economics - fact is, we're all in this sinking boat together.
My son has OCD, and right now his obsession surrounds nuclear war. He plays games on his phone playing out what would happen to make him feel better. Every day I get questions about the world, and we have to logically go through the news together to make this world make sense.
Except it doesn't.
